The Crown-a fantastic read whether you watch the series or not!

The Crown is the newest non fiction book that I have read. I really enjoy historical fiction so I was very excited to review this book. If you are a fan of Netflix and watch The Crown, then this is the book for you.

The book is arranged chapter by chapter to match the series and the various episodes. Pictures of the actors and the real people they portray as well as the differences between what happened on the series and what really occurred in real life are included. I especially enjoyed the pictures of the real people.

I do somewhat follow the royal family but know very little about this time in history even though it was not really that long ago. I do not watch the series and you do not need to do so in order to enjoy this book. I would definitely recommend this book to others. I know my in-laws will enjoy it immensely as I will loan it to them next.

This is one fantastic adventure story!

What a fantastic story! I am so glad I decided to review this book.  It is one of the best books I have read in quite awhile.

This is an adventure story to top all adventure stories.  Two people land in a plane crash on a mountain top and must somehow work together in order to survive.  How would you handle this if it happened to you?  I kept asking myself that question and wished I was half as handy as one of the characters in this book. He had many of the life skills needed in order to keep warm and find food.

Their journey together is as exciting as a story can be. This book is a quick and easy read and one you will enjoy immensely.  I bet the movie will be just as exciting and intense.  I could not put it down!

The Heirs has many secrets.

"The Heirs" tells the story of a rich family and the reactions of many family and friends after the death of Rupert Falkes. The story is interesting but has a lot of characters that never seem to be fully developed. The book goes from the past to present day and back again so many times that it is hard to keep track of what time period one is in at any given moment.

I myself have some personal history of being an "heir" but in a much smaller way.  When my parents died, many decisions had to be made and this can dig up feelings that we thought were long since forgotten.  The characters in this book also go through these emotions but on a much grander scale.

I recommend this book as a fast read.  It is a good reminder to us all to keep in mind how we want our own deaths handled and to carefully choose the people that will take care of those details for us.

The Acid Watcher Diet really helps!

I decided to review this book for purely personal reasons.  I have acid reflux so I thought let's see if this works.  I began the diet and I must say I found it to be a bit restrictive.  Much of my diet seems to be acid based which is helping to cause the acid reflux.  So to find something I could eat was challenging. On more than one occasion I slipped on this diet.  For me it was very difficult to skip caffeine and cows milk but I gave it my best try.

The book does have recipes that you can make but I found many of them to have ingredients that I was unfamiliar with.  I also knew that most of the things I could eat the rest of my family would not be interested in.  So I ended up spending more for groceries and/or cooking twice.  But, maybe it would be worth it.

I have been on the diet for 1 month now and I believe it has helped to heal the damage already done.  I noticed that when I had something with acid ( a piece of pizza) it burned as I swallowed it. So it remains to be seen if I can gradually add some of the forbidden foods back into my diet and not again have reflux.  I am hopeful.

So, overall I would say this is something that you should definitely look at if you have GERD/Acid reflux.  If this can help you without resorting to medications that is a huge plus. I have struggled with it but know that it has helped. Give it a try!

The Chilbury Ladies' Choir is a great read!

The Chilbury Ladies' Choir is just a delightful book!  I am so glad I decided to review it.  It is the story of a group of women of all different ages who are left at home at the beginning of World War 2.  They are faced with many different challenges in a time when women did not work outside the home or even have much decision making power in many aspects of their lives.  They are finding their courage and voice in everyday situations as "life does indeed go on."

The story is told in the format of diary/journal entries and letters.  We get to know several different characters and how they react to this new normal in their lives. I very much enjoy historical fiction so this was the perfect book for me.  In fact, I was a little sad when I finished the book because I was enjoying finding out about their lives.  I think a sequel to the book would be a great idea!

The Fatal Gift of Beauty is not all that interesting.

I was very excited to see this book as an option to review so I eagerly tried to order it.  I discovered that I was unable to do so as there were no further review copies available so I emailed Blogging for Books and more copies became available.

I received my copy and started to read it right away.  I remember the Amanda Knox case and followed the news coverage of the trials so I did know something about this story.  I fully expected to learn more about the murder and her story.  I must say as much as I wanted to like this book--I just did not.

I do not enjoy the author's style of writing.  She brings all sorts of  background information that I am not interested in and goes way too in depth into some of the characters. There did not seem to be a logical flow to the story either.  In summary I can't say that I learned much more than I already knew.
